Music and Traditions

When I had to think about what to write on this blog, I was trying to pick between New Year's music that we listen to vs. Birthday music that we listen to in my family, but I decided to talk about Christmas music. Don't worry, if you're not hispanic then you've probably not heard these, so you won't have to listen to American English music all over again. On the other hand, I listen to these songs every year during December, and since only around two weeks have passed since December, I have been listening to these songs for a while.

Mi Burrito Sabanero

I have heard this song during Christmas for as long as I can remember. As soon as it hits December 1st, my mom begins playing Christmas music in the house, and as soon as December 24 ends (this is when we celebrate Christmas) she loses all of her Christmas spirit. This is one of those songs that she plays on the TV. It's not my favorite Christmas song, but it does have a special place in my heart because I have heard it since I was very young. It is also very catchy in my opinion. This is becoming one of my little sister's favorite songs as well!

Campana Sobre Campana

I have also heard this song for a very long time, but I could never remember the lyrics. This song used to play at some childhood friend Christmas parties that my brother and I would get invited to, but it's not something I would play now if I were to host a Christmas party. This is also one of the songs that plays through December at my house. I believe my mom has a playlist with all the Christmas music she likes to hear, but I would have to double check with her.

Tutaina

This song used to annoy me a lot when I was little, possibly because my brother would sing this very loudly just to make me mad. This is also probably the most popular Christmas song in Colombia. I have no clue what Tutaina means, but according to the internet it means party. The other word "tuturuma" I could not find online, so sadly none of us know what it means (but if someone does find out what it means please let me know). And yes, this is also in my mom's Christmas playlist. I'm sure I will keep listening to all of these in the future, so I hope you enjoyed them at least a little!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Hey! I agree, that first song is really catchy. Also, I can definately relate to siblings annoying me. I love that you chose to write about christmas music, it didn't even occur to me.

  2. I really enjoy hispanic music, but I've never listened to hispanic christmas music, so this was a pretty fun blog to go through ! I think Tutaina was my favorite, i liked the crickets.
